Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project - dubbed the Space Key - is a work of art that was made in collaboration with an artist who is not known. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a tangible item that has a link to exclusive digital artwork, accessible via a QR code on the back. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini took to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. The carbon fiber was then created into a distinctive artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical object is equipped with an NFT serial code that links to the digital image via QR code printed on the back.

NFTs, for those who aren't familiar they are unique identifiers that are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to an digital asset like a photograph or video, song or other record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.
Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art by working with NFT PRO, an all-white label NFT solution for business. In the coming weeks Lamborghini will be sharing details about the exciting project, including the name of the unknown artist and a timeline for the auction.

After a series of social media posts that tease something related to space, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of tokens that are not fungible (NFT) with an exclusive project called Space Key. The NFT was developed in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned within a few weeks. Its core is a piece comprised of an advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital artwork using the QR code that is on its backside. Five Space Keys have been produced.
NFTs are unique identifiers that can be recorded on distributed ledgers such the Blockchain and tied to digital assets such as images. It's a hot subject among people with more money than they have common sense. It was just a question of time before automakers decided to cash in.
Space Key consists of five units. It was constructed using a physical piece of carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will have a QR code that links it to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed including the name and digital artwork of the artist and how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project involving tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork created by the unidentified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the 'collector's piece' is limited to just five units and will soon be auctioned off.
At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth the block was inscribed with a QR codes that link to the digital component in the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner used a balloon with a camera to take each of the individual images, which were later merged into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world photograph that captures both the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car rising from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and location of the event hasn't been announced yet.

By signing up online, you will be able to bid on five NFTs. Each NFT will be sold separately and the winner will receive an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its space voyage.
